Young New Patient
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child's first visit take place around the age of 1 year.
Why would you take such a young child to the dentist when they are only starting to get teeth?
The young new patient visit will be an important experience for both you and your child. During this appointment, we will use a comfortable technique where your child has physical contact with you the entire time, to perform an exam of the teeth and gums. Depending on the child's age and parents' wishes, a cleaning can also be carried out in the same manor. The second part of this appointment will be educational; providing tips for at home cleaning, dietary suggestions, developmental, and habit education. It is our goal for both you and your child to feel comfortable at the dentist and to start them on the path to a healthy and beautiful smile.
Conservative Dentistry
At Homegrown Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, we do not perform treatment unless absolutely necessary. We provide parents with all the important information and recommendations, allowing them to decide on which, if any treatment to preform.
Active surveillance: Did you know that some cavities can go away? When a cavity is very small and only in the outer surface of the tooth (enamel) preventative treatment can be done so a restoration (filling) may not need to be placed. We will monitor any suspicious areas for months with an exam and x-rays.
Preventative Care
Prevention is the key to a healthy happy smile. It is our goal at Homegrown Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics P.C., to provide and foster all the necessary elements needed to ensure your child is cavity free. Caring for your child's teeth is a team effort which is why we provide dietary counseling and oral hygiene instructions that will help empower at home prevention.
Sedation Dentistry
We understand that every child is unique. Therefore, we offer different treatment methods to help your child ensure success at their dental visits, keeping your child and you comfortable and happy. As a specialist, Dr. Christina McKellar offers two sedation options to complete essential dental treatment.
The two options are: Nitrous Oxide Sedation and in office IV Sedation
