Sedation Dentistry
Nitrous oxide (“happy air”) is available for children who may feel slightly anxious about having dental treatment done. N2O is colorless, odorless, gases that the child will breathe in. It will help to eliminate anxiety, and can have a calming effect. The great thing about N2O is that is has minimal side effects and works quickly. Once the dental procedure is completed the child will breathe oxygen for 5 minutes and will have no restrictions on activity afterward.
If your child has extensive dental treatment or has special needs, IV sedation may be an option. For this treatment an anesthesiologist will help your child fall asleep. Once the child is sleeping the dental treatment will be completed by Dr. McKellar.
